Will this work for my car?

This enables wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on compatible VW MIB2 units.

Step 1 – Confirm your software version

You’ll enter this at checkout. Hold MENU for 3 seconds, select Software update/versions, then Installed SW Train Version. It should start with MST2 – for example:

Step 2 – Count your SD card slots

Two slots labelled SD1 and SD2? That’s a supported headunit. Just one slot? Still supported if the version you found in Step 1 ends in D and your headunit has the App-Connect function present.

2015/2016 cars – one rare exception

A small number of 2015/2016 cars left the factory with a USB socket that doesn’t carry Apple CarPlay. It’s uncommon, and the socket is an easy swap – here’s how to check yours. Later model years skip this.

Built for European-market vehicles – your version screen will read MST2_EU_…. UK, Ireland and all European countries supported. Vehicles from other regions (US, Japan and so on) aren't supported.

Each activation is single use and gives a one-time lifetime activation on the head unit it is applied to, so it cannot be reused or returned once supplied.

By ordering you request immediate supply and acknowledge that you lose your 14-day right to cancel once we send the files, or once you unseal the SD card, under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.

What's the difference between Email and SD card?

Email

Your order data for your Installed SW Train Version will be delivered via email within 24 hours. Instructions are included. You will need your own Windows/Mac device + spare SD card (between 4-32GB) to carry out the installation.

SD card

You will receive a pre-loaded SD card via the post, plus instructions. No computer needed. This is also the easiest option as it will essentially be plug-and-play.

Does the SD card need to stay in the unit?

No, you may remove it afterwards if you wish to use the SD card for another purpose.

I only have a slot labelled SD, will this work for me?

In most cases, this product is not suitable for your vehicle. Due to technical reasons, we are unable to support this type of headunit. Some vehicles have a separate SD slot, typically not on the headunit itself. This is also not compatible.

Exception

The only exception is if you have 1 slot and the App-Connect function in your infotainment system and your software version ends with the letter D. If in doubt, do get in touch with us to confirm.

Do I need any upgrades?

We highly recommend the Carlinkit Mini Ultra wireless adapter for the best experience. Factory systems only support wired connections–this adapter seamlessly converts it to wireless, giving you hassle-free access every time you start your car.

Do you offer map updates?

We do not currently support map updates, however, we recommend navigation via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto using Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze.

5 minutes after placing my order I received a link to my email with the files and clear instructions how to install the update.
It took no more than 5 minutes and a couple of reboots to install the software and now the Android Auto is available and working fine (haven't checked the Car Play yet).

After a bit of faffing (due to my own lack of knowledge), and then gettin gin an expert (my wife!), everything went perfectly (even using a micro SD card). Easy and cheap

2017 Passat CarPlay activation

My 2017 Passat was CarPlay capable but was not fitted at purchase(error saying activation required). After a quote from VW of £314 for part and 30-60min labour @ £160/hr I thought I would go looking. Vision-coding is what I found. Great support via WhatsApp to check a couple of things and then purchased the email copy. Popped it on an SD card followed the supplied instructions and 10-15mins later the results in the image speak for themselves. Would highly recommend!!
